The Government of National Accord has done very little and said vert little about Ganfouda. In August 2016 they issues a release calling for the assistance of the ICRC. But this call for intervention has not been repeated since.

Government of National Accord Statement on Ganfouda

The Presidential Council of the Government of National Accord, the legitimate government recognized by the UN, is not able to directly intervene and protect these families from crimes being committed against them, as they do not have control over this region in Libya. While the GNA is yet to lead a solution, the Ministry of Interior has called on the International Red Cross Committee to protect and free these families.

Several peaceful efforts to rescue these families and evacuate them from areas of armed conflict have failed due to the refusal of Haftar’s forces to guarantee safe corridor for the evacuation. As a result, the families of Ganfouda are at a great risk with each day that passes by and the condition they remain captive within is a humanitarian disaster.
